Bjorn Birkelund at Unbundling Uncovered London: Scaling an Analyst's Impact with AI

At Unbundling Uncovered London, Filot CEO Bjorn Birkelund spoke about what it takes to scale an analyst's impact with AI, and how Financial Modeling Autopilot automates earnings updates so teams can scale coverage from 15 names to 150.

At Substantive Research's Unbundling Uncovered London on 4 November, our CEO Bjorn Birkelund spoke about what it takes to actually scale an analyst's impact with AI.

He spoke on the panel Solutions & Analytics in Research & Corporate Access: The New Frontier. For the first time in the conference's history, Substantive gave the stage to five solutions providers.

Beyond Faster Access to Information

Much of the conversation around AI in research focuses on faster access to information and MCP connectors. Less attention goes to how AI can build on each analyst's expertise and methodology, developed over years, and help them apply it across more companies.

Three Things AI Has to Get Right

To be a force multiplier and deliver real ROI, AI needs to get three things right.

  • Learn how each analyst works. Filot learns an analyst's methodology from a few of their existing models.
  • Use the data they rely on. Filings, transcripts, global and scanned disclosures, and the providers teams already use, such as S&P Capital IQ, Visible Alpha and FactSet.
  • Make the results easy to audit. Deterministic checks reconcile key figures to filings, and every cell traces back to its source, including calculated ones.

Without those foundations, the time saved doing the work can quickly become time spent checking and correcting it.

What Autopilot Does

These principles are at the core of what we're building at Filot. Financial Modeling Autopilot puts them to work across a team's whole coverage:

  • Event-driven earnings updates. When a company reports or files, Autopilot picks up the new materials and updates the model in the analyst's own methodology, then sends it for review. When several companies report on the same day, the crunch every analyst knows, each model updates in parallel.
  • Nothing missed. It proactively flags new information as it is released, across filings, transcripts and presentations, along with restatements, reporting changes and shifts in the metrics the team tracks. The analyst keeps their edge.
  • Coverage at scale. With updates running in the background, teams can drastically scale coverage, from 15 names to 150, and analyze across all of them.

Global banks and leading funds are using our products to expand coverage and deepen their research, with each analyst's methodology and judgment at the center.

"Most of the conversation about AI in research is about getting to information faster. The harder problem, and the more valuable one, is helping an analyst apply years of expertise across more companies in a way they can trust. That only works if the AI learns how they work, uses the data they rely on, and makes every result easy to check."
